Happy Saturday – I haven’t been able to
write in weeks, but this is my weekend. I’ve the house to myself and I’m going
to go for it. But I will take the time to check out the snippets. If I do take
a break I want something good to read. Have to reload that kindle.
My snippet today comes from Cassie’sOrdeal. Since ‘the ordeal’ Tom has been more protective than usual, if you can
imagine. While on vacation Tom and Steve tell the girls they want them to wear
helmets when they ride their bikes to town. Unfortunately, the girls ignore the
request. There is a minor accident and ending with scrubbed hands and knees.
They decide to tell the boys the truth, but when Tom says, “I sure hope you
were wearing your helmet.” Cassie snapped back without thinking, “You said we
had to.” Now she needed to correct the impression she’d made.
Everyone had fallen quiet, I’d finished about half my drink then I
quickly bolted the rest and began, “We weren’t wearing helmets. You didn’t
really say that we had to, just that you wanted us to, so we didn’t, and it
wouldn’t have kept us from getting hurt anyway, and then you said you hoped we
were wearing them and I said you told us to, I didn’t say we were, but I know
you thought that, and the girls keep looking at me because I’d left that
impressions, and we had already talked about coming clean with you guys and
that’s the whole thing and you all can just quit staring at me.”
Unfortunately saying it fast with no breaths still didn’t help
much. Tom hadn’t heard, or paid any attention, to anything I said since, ‘We
weren’t wearing helmets’.
Everyone was still looking at me in complete silence, I could feel
my face growing hot. “Well somebody say something. It’s not like we shot
somebody’s granny.”
I could tell by the way Tom was beginning to look at me that
he was starting to understand what I was raving about. When he spoke he said
mildly, “It’s siesta time, join me, Cassie?” He may have phrased it as a
question, but it was a command.

Blurb for Cassie’s Ordeal - book 7
Cassie loves her life on the river with Tom and her friends. She feels Tom has her wrapped in a safe and protected cocoon of love. But her world is jarred when the phone calls begin. Cassie hesitates to tell Tom about them knowing he’ll over react and she will be the one under ‘house arrest’. But when the calls go from annoying to frightening she has no choice. Tom brings in the police to find out who is behind the harassment and make plans to keep Cassie safe, but he’s too late – Cassie is gone without a trace.
The police began an all out search, but there are few clues to go on. Will life on the river ever be the same again?
The Cassie books don’t have to be read in order, so jump in with this one. But if you like to read in order the first four can now be found in the Cassie Box Set. It’s a great deal.
Check out the snippets from these great writers.
Siesta, eh? Methinks it will be awhile before Tom lets Cassie rest. Great excerpt, PK.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid you're right.
DeleteHmm... me thinks someone is in trouble. LOTS of trouble and I suspect it will be a while before any sleep is achieved LOL :D
ReplyDeleteTom does expect to be listened to - perhaps he married the wrong woman for that.
DeleteOh dear, somehow I don't think Tom is buying Cassie's explanation, Siesta huh? Not sure how much rest Cassie will get.

No, resting is not what's on Tom's mind.
DeleteI love how she got that all out in one breath! Siesta? I don't think so ;)
ReplyDeleteConfessing is not Cassie's strong suit. But saying it fast still didn't help.
DeleteI love how she blurts it out! Good luck writing this weekend!
ReplyDeleteIf it had only been fast enough for Tom to have missed it completely. The writing has gone well, thanks.
Delete"It’s not like we shot somebody’s granny." Ha ha ha! Yup, because THAT's going to get you out of a spanking. Love it.
ReplyDeleteOften Cassie's southern roots do show.
DeleteOH OH for Cassie!!!! I think that it is always Uh OH for Cassie. Her Tom adores her that way, and she him, right?? LOL! After a spanking moment on most occasions I bet! LOVED the snippet, PK! Many hugs,
ReplyDelete<3 Katie
