Happy New Year
to all Saturday Spankings readers. I hope everyone is looking forward to a
wonderful 2016. I’m going back and getting snippets from all the Cassie books.
Today’s snippet is from the third book, Cassie on the Move. Cassie, Tom and
friends are on a cruise. One of the on board show is an adult themed, late
night comic with what Tom feels is
probably a total inappropriate show. Tom tells Cassie they won’t be seeing that
particular show. Cassie’s annoyed at what she sees as his ridiculous
overprotectiveness.
We also have a difference of opinion on, shall we call it,
“risqué humor.” Being totally honest, I have to admit I love to hear a good
off-color joke – yet Tom simply won’t abide one being told in my presence, and
heaven help my butt if I am the one telling the joke. I’ll still repeat a good
joke to the girls if I hear one, but never in
front of Tom.
I suppose this sounds sweet and gallant to some, but I truly
don’t understand. Exactly what is Tom trying to “protect” me from? Not only
have I heard a lifetime of dirty jokes, I probably lived most of them before we
met, and he knows it. As for the “bad” language, I have sufficient vocabulary,
and sometimes the desire, to cuss enough to make a sailor blush. I don’t, at
Tom’s request, but it’s not like I am going to hear something new. I saw the
whole thing as Tom just being bossy and unreasonable. And, unfortunately, that
always sets off my desire to get away with
something, and since Sue was along, plans were hatched.

So true. It's like a moth to a flame. But it won't be her wings that get burned.
DeleteI'll bet Tom just doesn't want to set a precedent he thinks isn't good for Cassie. It's not protection as much as it is keeping the lid on a can of worms he never wants her to open again.
ReplyDeleteWell put Kathryn, that could very well be true.
DeleteCassie and Sue can get in trouble standing still in a room full of people. It would be great fun to be friends with them - life would never be dull.
ReplyDeleteThat's the truth - I still want to be Cassie when/if I grow up.
DeleteOh, I do love an adult-themed comic ... and have a mouth similar to Cassie's - although it sounds like she keeps a lid on better than I do! Great snippet, PK ... I'd definitely be making plans with Cassie and Sue ;)
ReplyDeleteCassie contains it as best she can and Tom is there as the enforcer when she can't. Come back next week to find out what happened after the show.
DeleteCassie is my kinda gal!
ReplyDeleteThanks, mine too!
DeleteWhy does it seem like all old fashioned men don't want women to swear, but it's okay if they do? Great snippet!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
So true, although Tom VERY rarely swears around Cassie.
DeleteHa ha, Tom's just a gentleman, whether Cassie wants to be a lady or not.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth!
DeleteI think Cassie is headed for TROUBLE! This can only end excitingly well ;)
ReplyDeleteYou're right Christina. Come back next week to see what happened.
DeletePlans hatched! Mischief in the making :)
ReplyDeleteThat's Cassie all over!
DeleteAnother fab snippet, PK. Damn, I wish I had more time for reading!
