Welcome to Saturday Spankings! It’s definitely
time to get your summer reading list going and this is the place to find out
about some great summer reads. My snippet
is from Becoming Family, the second in the Cal’s Law series.
Lane, Cal’s sister, and Jenny have
become friends. Lane mentioned being spanked by her boyfriend and Jenny think
Lane is secretly making fun of her. But Lane goes on to explain that her
sisters-in-law get spanked and even Cal’s mom on occasion. Jenny is shocked and
Lane tells her about the time she found out.
“There had been something wrong with mom for a few days,
she seemed down, which was really unusual. I woke up about midnight and opened
my window, my dad had literally taken her to the wood shed – I guess because
they had a house full of kids. Anyway, I could hear the spanking and I could
hear Mama crying and telling him she was sorry and she’d never do it again but
the spanking went on for a while.
“I sat listening at the window until I heard them coming
back to the house. I was scared shitless. I lay there awake the rest of the
night because I knew that in the morning I was either going to find my Dad
dead, my mom gone or she would be telling us kids to pack our things because
she was leaving him.
“But when I came into the kitchen the next morning, there
was Daddy sitting at the table smiling and watching mom cook. She was at the
stove making pancakes – on a weekday, and she was singing. She was bringing the
platter to the table when Daddy reached over and untied her apron, he’ll do
that sometimes to tease her. I remember she slapped his shoulder then bent over
and kissed him. She was, well they both were, as happy as I’d ever seen them.
Against overwhelming odds, Jenny and Cal are together and happy. Their love is strong, but before they can become family Jenny needs to learn what that word means. Jenny has no background in the real meaning of "family" but when Cal wants her to meet his and get to know hers, she knows the time has come. The difference in the two families is wide and jarring. Jenny has a lot to learn, but then so does Cal. When he meets her family, he discovers that the word family doesn't always mean the same thing to all people.
Jenny’s mother has planned a future for her daughter that does not include someone as ordinary as Cal Bennet. What could this small-town hick with no money and no connections do for her? How far will her mother go to see that Jenny accepts a life of high society and prestige? Will these two lovers come to an understanding of what their family will look like?

Lovely snippet PK, that would have been a shock for both Lane at the time and Jenny. Lovely description of how a spanking relationship works :)

At least that's the way I've always dreamed it could be.
DeleteI agree. A spanking like that always gets my head back on straight.
ReplyDeleteYou really entered into Cal's mind in this book, and here is a good example.

Ella
It would work for me too.
DeleteWhat a wonderful insight to how the DD dynamic works! Beautifully told.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Libby.
DeleteIt always amazes me when parents say "the kids don't know anything about our lifestyle." Um, bet they know a lot more than you think they do. Cute scene with loving parents and the kids POV.
ReplyDeleteI've often wondered what our kids knew and when. But I like this for the resolution of it all.
DeleteI love that scene! It's so sweet and loving.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great snippet! Perfect!
