Getting to know Thianna D

I've ben intrigued by Thianna's writing since I first came here and found all these great writers. She has so many books to her credit and I've loved everyone I've read - from Corbin's Bend to Chriatian and Logan - She is just a great writer! A big thanks to you for doing this Thianna! 

All her books, and some that are to come, are listed at the end of the interview. Now lets get to know more about… 

Thianna D

I was born and raised in the Western US. No, I can't be more exact mainly because I've lived in most of the western states. I swear there's a gypsy gene and I've got it. My parents only moved twice before I was 18. I've moved over 100 times since graduating high school. Whenever I stay in a place too long, I get antsy.

I'm single, never married, but remain hopeful I meet Mr. Right sometime soon. I've always attracted older men, unfortunately, and the older I get, the more horrifying that gets. I still prefer men in their 30s. :)

I've been an 80+hr/week writer for several years but finally made my way through my savings and this year have taken on non-writing contract work as well. It is difficult to separate myself like that, but one does what they need to do to survive :)

I prefer everything done as close to nature as possible. I use baking soda/water or natural shampoo bars to wash my hair and a rinse of organic apple cider vinegar and water. My body cleanser is a mixture of water and lavender castile soap. I use red rooibous tea to help brighten the red already in my hair and all my household cleaners are safe products: lemon juice, vinegar, baking soda, organic essential oils, etc...that I make myself.

A Reiki master/trainer, I rely on healing energy.  I have only had to go to a doctor once in the last 4 years, but have found what my body lacked so won't have to do that again. Also, I am in touch with the fact that we are who we think we are. The more I learn about myself through the study of metaphysics, the less much else truly matters. We spend so much of our lives trying to 'make it' or to compete with others, when the plain fact is, everything we go through is an outpouring of how we feel and think about ourselves. Change that and everything else changes.

When did you first realize that you were interested in the idea of spanking?

Strangely enough, that is a relatively new kink for me. I've had kinky dreams since I was a child, but they were never about spanking. In fact, when I found BDSM in my late 20s, what pulled at me most was the D/s part as I recognized that finally there were others like me. In the years since then, I have found less people are actually interested in the D/s dynamic than I had originally hoped. They are more involved with the B&D and S&M aspects. (Not that those aren't fun as well. *grins*)

My spanking interest stems from only a few years ago when I went to a private party. It was around my birthday and so, of course, all the well-meaning tops offered to give me my birthday spankings. At that time, while I loved a good flogging and had a definite leather fixation, spanking never interested me. It just sounded so...childish. But, I was there and having fun, so I said okay. There were 13 of them and so it was decided they would give me 5 a piece. Some were hard, some were soft - and when they were done, 70 swats had heated up my rear end and I was one very happy girl.

Were you spanked as a child? Whether yes or no, do you think this affected your interest?

Nope. My parents didn't believe in spanking. The only person I ever knew who was spanked as a child, the way he described it horrified me I will admit, because it was not loving discipline at all.

Did you, do you, or might you use spanking with your own children?

I'm never going to have any so it's a moot point :)

When did you first begin writing spanking stories?

I've been writing BDSM stories for a long time, and spanking was used as discipline. In an erotic sense, I would say I've been writing them for 6 or 7 years.

How comfortable are you with people in your real life knowing that you write spanking fiction? Does everyone know, a select few, or do you try to keep it private?

I ‘came out’ to my family and close friends about being submissive a few years ago. Mother was okay about it until she realized I wasn't the one doing the swatting, but instead taking them myself. Now she just shakes her head at me.

Spanking fiction is just a small amount of what I do, but I want people to understand that what I write is about loving discipline and more about how that can help someone. Sure, there are spanking scenes and hot sex, but that us just a part of it. What I write is romance with a hint of spice. Some of that spice just happens to heat up the rear end.
 

Some people don’t like to be labeled in only one area, but do you feel your writing is in a particular category?

Definitely not. I have several pseudonyms. Under Thianna D (m/f) and Thianna Durston (m/m), I write romance with a hint of spice -which is romance novellas or novels with some erotic context. For me, the erotic parts have to support the story, not the other way around.

I have mostly focused on either a BDSM or loving discipline focus, but have a series now that I am writing that is not kinky at all, but instead, action/suspense/paranormal with a splash of hot non-kinky sex - yes, it does exist.

I read tons of different genres and write in almost as many. I can't stick to just one genre. Otherwise those words all start to sound the same to me. Whereas if I am constantly writing in different genres, it keeps each new storyline fresh.

How attached do you get to your characters? Do you know what happens after the book ends?

Some characters I get very attached to. Especially if I write more than one book with them as the main characters. Blake & Dusty, Logan & Christian, as well as Jonathon & Benjamin all stick with me because I write them so often. But the characters I have in the new series I am writing will no doubt stick with me because it's 6 books and several of the characters really stand out to me.

As for what happens after the book ends? If that comes to me, I write that story. Otherwise? I'm of the “and they all lived happily ever after” thought. :)

Describe your ‘perfect’ writing day.

Every day is a perfect writing day. I suppose the best is when everything is quiet and the story flows through my fingers hard and fast and next thing I know, 8 hours and 18,000 words have gone by and I barely noticed the time.

When did you first begin publishing? What caused you to jump in at that moment in time?

My first book was published in 2007. I have been writing all my life - I even have one of the first sci-fi tales I wrote when I was five. But it wasn't until 2007 that I felt like maybe my work was good enough. After that, I went into fanfiction for awhile, which really helped in a few things - mainly getting feedback from fans and finding out that YES< people did enjoy my writing.

My first self-published  books started in 2011.
