My apology for not being here last week after I’d signed
up. It was just dumb on my part. I haven’t known what day it was since December
20 when my husband got off for Christmas. I’m hoping Mistress Blake will be
understanding.
Moving on, I’m taking today snippet from Cassie’s Life. Cassie
is being blackmailed and in an effort to stop feeling like a victim she decides
to go looking for the pictures she feels should belong to her. With the help of
all the girls they have located where the blackmailer is staying and they know
he will be away for a while. All she needs is just a little more help…
“Hoist
me up girls,” I told them and I managed to break out a hole in the upper window
large enough to get my hand in and turn the lock.
Jenny
looked at me with frank admiration. “Not your first rodeo, is it?” she asked
grinning.
I
ignored her as Sue and Allie managed to push the window open. Getting in was a
little trickery than I’d hoped. I stepped into the girls cupped hands and they
lifted me, but not quite enough for me to straddle the windowsill. The best I
could do was fold myself in. Problem was that I still couldn’t touch the floor
with my hands.
“You’re
going to have to push a little,” I told the girls. I could imagine was a lovely
picture I was presenting to them with my butt hanging in the breeze and my legs
dangling. I felt their hands on my rear as they pushed me on through. I landed
on the floor and nearly did a summersault as my legs came through the window
with momentum. I lay on the floor for a moment to catch my breath.
Cassie’s Life (Book 10)
Ask Cassie about her life on the river and she’ll tell you it’s lovely and peaceful. But while Cassie loves the life she lives, peaceful is not always an accurate description. Whether she’s confronting an armed man who’s in a drunken rage, planning a friend’s wedding or dealing with a ghost in a backwoods lodge, Cassie is going to deal with it the best way she knows how. And peaceful doesn’t always work.
When a mysterious phone call comes for Cassandra Wentworth – Cassie’s past is suddenly back to haunt her in a devastating way. Tom has always said nothing from before the time they met counts, but he didn’t know about this. Sue, Annie, Allie and Jenny are all willing to help, but will it be enough?

This is one of those passages where I did get a mental picture of what a hilarious photo this would have made. I know Cassie's situation wasn't humorous, but this little bit certainly lightened the mood.
ReplyDeleteElla Loves Cassie :)
I do sometimes laugh as some of Cassie's predicaments - even when the situation is very serious.
DeleteI can just see you and I trying to get in that window and the picture is just too funny.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure we would look about like this did! And some of our friends would not only be helping, they would be filming.
DeleteSomehow, I get the feeling this isn't going to end well for Cassie. Just when you think it's safe to.... And no, this definitely wasn't her first rodeo. Love the snippet, PK.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kathryn! I guess there isn't much Cassie and Sue haven't tried by now.
DeleteThat whole scene in the book was great. I loved when Cassie left and found more than she expected outside.... It was such a wonderful book!

Thanks, Rosie. It seems fate has decreed that Cassie get away with nothing in this life.
