Happy Saturday! I
hope you all still like coming by for Saturday Spankings. I enjoy having a
place to share snippets from my books. I think it’s a great place to be able to
pick what you’d like to read next.
I’m choosing a
snippet from Cassie’s Life. The girls are on yet another ‘girl’s trip’, but one
different from all others. This one was planned by Allie and Jenny and they had
included Lily in their invitation. Most of the trip had Cassie and Sue feeling
like they were in the Twilight Zone. In this snippet they all find themselves
at a somewhat backwoods dance hall being greeted by a regular.
“I’m Dolly Walker.” She asked each of
our names and shook our hands. “I’m proud to know you,” she told us happily.
And then she began telling us about the folks gathering. “Over there, them two
changing their shoes, that the Stone brothers, Wayne and Dwayne. They’re both
in their seventies and some of the best dancers here. See they’re getting on
their dancing shoes.”
Sure enough the two little old men
dressed in overalls, both reminded me of Earnest T. Bass from the Andy Griffin
show, were changing from work boots into tap
shoes. I began feeling like the weekend was being spent in the twilight zone.
“And that feller with the red
suspenders and the John Deer cap, that’s Miles Taylor. He’s had cancer three
times now. The last time he was diagnosed he was ninety and the doctor told him
he wouldn’t last six months. He’s ninety-four now and still going strong. His
doctor’s dead, though,” she said after a pause. Sue and I both burst out
laughing. The evening was getting stranger and stranger.
Cassie’s Life (Book 10)
Ask Cassie about her life on the river and she’ll tell you it’s lovely and peaceful. But while Cassie loves the life she lives, peaceful is not always an accurate description. Whether she’s confronting an armed man who’s in a drunken rage, planning a friend’s wedding or dealing with a ghost in a backwoods lodge, Cassie is going to deal with it the best way she knows how. And peaceful doesn’t always work.
When a mysterious phone call comes for Cassandra Wentworth – Cassie’s past is suddenly back to haunt her in a devastating way. Tom has always said nothing from before the time they met counts, but he didn’t know about this. Sue, Annie, Allie and Jenny are all willing to help, but will it be enough?
