Getting to know Katherine Deane - Dec 16

Katherine! Thank you for being here today. I know I'm enjoying getting to know all the writers out here and I hope everyone else is. I appreciate you joining in. Now who is …

Katherine Deane

Give us your basic bio, what ever you’re willing to let us know.

I'm in my early 40's, a stay at home mom with two young kids, who I home school twice a week.  I am kind of on the energetic (hyperactive / ADD) side, and love staying busy. My new love is yarn! I just found out I can sit still for 45 minutes without fidgeting and jumping up every two minutes, if I have something to do- like knitting or crocheting.

My writing is a part time hobby. Don't get me wrong. I think of plots and characters and stories all day and all night. But I have to find the right timing in between other responsibilities, before I can sit down and write everything out. LOL, my good friend, Corinne often receives phone calls from me that start with , "Quick, listen to this plot so I don't forget it!"  (It helps me remember, later, if I have already talked it out :) )

I love crafting, sewing... creating- you name it. If it can be done (somewhat quickly before I lose interest), then I will do it.

You should see my sewing / craft room (AKA the former dining room).
Creative chaos! ;)

I love writing and creating new stories, but get really disappointed when it turns out that my brilliant, unique idea has already been done. That's something I'll have to get over someday.

For now, I'm going to keep doing a little bit of everything that I love. It helps me stay grounded and happy. :)

When did you first realize that you were interested in the idea of spanking?

That's a tough question. I'm pretty sure I was interested at a very young age, but I didn't understand what I was feeling, or that it truly was a fetish for me. At 42, I am still fighting the conflicting emotions that go with saying, "I like being spanked."
It still seems weird and embarrassing sometimes. And because my husband is not a Spanko (nor any of my friends in real life), it is easy for me to start feeling ashamed.

But if I were honest, I think about it all day. It is a lifestyle I cannot live without. It is part of me. I even dream about it at night.

Are you in a relationship that includes spanking? How would you describe it?

My husband and I are in a HOH, LDD -like relationship. I can't say it is just LDD, because there are so many different dynamics to our relationship, and I don't think we should be grouped as one specific thing. He leads, I agree to submit to his leadership. That's not too tough, since we were both in the military when we met. He is very good at leading. I am actually very good at following - if it is a good, strong, leader, who doesn't micromanage me. Otherwise, all bets are off, and I am the least submissive woman in the world (and kind of mean ) . :)

For the most part, I do my own thing. But when I start shutting down or over-reacting, he steps in and helps me re-center.

He doesn't do it through spanking, unfortunately. (which is my preferred endorphin release). He actually just talks to me, and helps me think through the issue. I guess you could say he empowers me- which is awesome.
But I sure wish he would spank me a bit more often, when I am bratting. ;)

When did you first begin writing spanking stories?

I met this awesome community several years ago, right after bringing LDD to my husband. I came in as a reader, and never in a million years, would have thought I would actually WRITE a story myself.

But the more I think about it, I have been creating stories and plots in my head for most of my life. And I have acted them out to all my friends or family (complete strangers in a restaurant. that's me ;) center of attention. loves acting and entertaining!!! )

So writing should not have been that far out of my scope.

How comfortable are you with people in your real life knowing that you write spanking fiction? Does everyone know, a select few, or do you try to keep it private?

LOL, if it was mainstream or romance or even light BDSM, I would probably be okay with letting close friends and my family know.
But because of the nature (come on, it's still hard for me as a Spanko to reconcile my own needs, and I love being spanked!) I have to be very careful not to say anything out loud. I can't even say I write, because that would lead to the "What do you write?" and "what's your pen name?" questions.

His family would not take it well at all. My mother would definitely not take it well, and would "accidentally" spills the beans on whatever social  media site she could.
so, shhhh. It's a secret. And only my two sisters know, and one IRL friend. :)

Some people don’t like to be labeled in only one area, but do you feel your writing is in a particular category?

Hmmm, I think my writing definitely spans a bit, because I love different subgenres- fantasy, paranormal, contemporary, romantic comedy, action, science fiction...

But in general, I prefer to write M/F. The male is strong and good, and honest. The female can be super strong, or not yet know her own potential. I love non con spankings, but the woman has to emotionally feel like she has gotten something out of it, for it to feel necessary and positive.

I also like consensual spankings, but find it does not always satisfy my inner spanking desires - which is to be dragged cursing and screaming over a big, hard lap, and spanked on my bare bottom until I cry (and realize what I did was wrong). ;)

I like my Mc's to respect each other.

I like to put some realism in my stories, (like an imperfect male, who makes a mistake), but I still like the fantasy of the man that says, "I'm never too tired to give you what you need."

:)
I don't write Age play, but I do love the idea of an older man and a younger, bratty woman. I really like that dynamic, and would love to do more stories like that.

Do you think you might someday like to branch out and write something totally different, either within the spanking fiction world or something else completely?

I am so completely stoked to try my hand at paranormal! I will try it out in the spanking world first, and if I can get enough readers to say they like it, then spanking/paranormal will be my big niche. :)

How attached do you get to your characters? Do you know what happens after the book ends?

I get pretty attached to my characters, because I always put a piece of myself in them. :)

Describe your ‘perfect’ writing day.

A perfect writing day. :) Coffee with peppermint creamer. Thoughts just spilling onto my computer for an hour or so. Then I would take a break and go for a run. During my run, I would come up with a new scene. I would sprint back home, and write down the notes really quickly, while stretching. Then I would finish up the next scene, and enjoy some crafting time to decompress. :)

When did you first begin publishing? What caused you to jump in at that moment in time?

I think my first book was published last March. It was a tag team effort with Renee Rose and Casey McKay :) LOL, I have no idea. They were kind enough to pull me along and explain what to do. I just came up with ideas and wrote. Ooh! I should add that to my perfect writing day. :)

With so many wonderful writers here I can get confused as to who writes what. Would you list all the books you’ve published so far. I’m assuming most can be purchased through Amazon and Barnes and Noble, but let us know where else your books are available.

The Winter Storm - a fairy tale, parnaromal, spanking romance - with Casey McKay and Renee Rose

The Coach's Discipline - a contemporary spanking romance
