It’s Saturday again and I thank you for stopping by for
my Saturday Spankings snippet. Blushing Books recently accepted the third in
the Cal’s Law Series. I’m very happy and I’ll soon be sharing snippets from the
first two to try to get everyone back in a Cal and Jenny mood. Today’s snippet
is from Cassie’s Life.
Cassie is done talking to the police about her troubles
and her hotel break-in. She’s home with Tom and she wants everything settled in
their own way. But Tom’s not quite on board.
“Please,
Tom,” I asked, “can we just get it over with?”
“What?”
he asked, with a bewildered look.
I
was annoyed, was he doing it deliberately? Finally, he realized what I was
saying.
“Oh,
oh, I see,” he nodded. “No, I don’t think so girl. That was long ago, I told
you years ago that nothing you did back then counted. Our marriage began a
clean slate for us both.
This
wasn’t right. I felt the tiny bubble of fear reforming in my chest. Did he want
me to ask for a spanking? That wasn’t fair. I never asked. I just wanted it
done.
Tom
stared at me, his eyes squinting. I had the feeling of being scanned. Tom reads
me so well, not something I’m always fond of, but it’s the truth.
“Do
you want me to spank you?” he asked, surprised.
I
said nothing. Good grief, no! I didn’t want a spanking but … it’s what we do,
it’s how we reconnect, establish our roles and it allows me to let go of the
pain I know I’ve caused Tom.
I’d
looked down and Tom put his hand on my cheek causing me to look at him again.
He rephrased his question.
“Do
you need me to spank you?”
I
took a deep breath and gave him a tiny nod. “Not for then,” I told him quietly,
“for now.”
Cassie’s Life (Book 10)
Ask Cassie about her life on the river and she’ll tell you it’s lovely and peaceful. But while Cassie loves the life she lives, peaceful is not always an accurate description. Whether she’s confronting an armed man who’s in a drunken rage, planning a friend’s wedding or dealing with a ghost in a backwoods lodge, Cassie is going to deal with it the best way she knows how. And peaceful doesn’t always work.
When a mysterious phone call comes for Cassandra Wentworth – Cassie’s past is suddenly back to haunt her in a devastating way. Tom has always said nothing from before the time they met counts, but he didn’t know about this. Sue, Annie, Allie and Jenny are all willing to help, but will it be enough?

Oh, PK. I practically cried just reading this little bit. It is so tender and captured their whole love story in just a few little words. Lovely!

Tom can read her like a book and he knows what to do. He does love her.
DeleteSometimes you just need one...
ReplyDeleteAin't that the truth.
DeleteI agree with Ella. Wonderful snippet, PK.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kathryn!
DeleteHi PK, I'm with Ella, such a tender moment. Poor Cassie, she needs it, but it's so hard to ask.
