Welcome
back to another Saturday Spankings this holiday weekend – at least for those in
the US. Today is also Small Business Saturday, a day to pay attention to the
small, often struggling mom and pop business in your area. I also want to point
out that every writer is his or her own ‘small business.’ Sadly, most of us are
not going to achieve the fame of Stephen King or Dean Koontz. But we are all
trying to produce a ‘product’ that will bring joy to others. Please support
authors you like by not only buying their books, but writing a review. You can’t
imagine how much reviews are appreciated.
I’m so
happy to have Cassie’s Life out now! In today’s snippet Cassie and Tom are
visiting Colonial Williamsburg and Tom has enjoyed a business transaction with
the shoemaker. Cassie is with Tom as he returns to the shoemaker to thank him
for his work.
“Mr. Duff,
happy to see you again, sir. And is this your good lady?”
“Yes, this
is my wife, Mrs. Duff. Cassie, Mr. Edson, master cobbler.”
I murmured
a greeting, my eyes wandering back to the workmen when I heard Mr. Edson ask,
“Was your order made to specifications? Were you pleased?”
“Oh yes, I
was very pleased,” Tom informed this stranger. “It works beautifully,” he went
on enthusiastically.
I couldn’t
control my urge to make him shut-up and I pinched his thigh hard. Tom looked at
me with surprise and amusement.
“It should
last a lifetime, sir. But should you ever need a replacement please contact
us.”
“Thank-you,”
Tom told him. “It may well get worn out, I’ll be in touch.”
I gave Tom
another vicious pinch, which caused him to jump a little. He quickly said
good-bye to his new friend and ushered me out the door, whispering, “I thought
you might regret that first pinch, I know you’re going to regret the second.”
Tom was as
happy as a child. He doesn’t do it all the time but teasing me so blatantly in
public when I can say nothing in my defense delights him at times.
“You
embarrassed me!” I told him.
Tom just
chuckled and headed back to the house. Coming in he said, “I think it’s time to
give your new gift a real work out and see what it can do. The very idea of
pinching your husband, shame on you.”
Cassie’s Life (Book 10)
Ask Cassie about her life on the river and she’ll tell you it’s lovely and peaceful. But while Cassie loves the life she lives, peaceful is not always an accurate description. Whether she’s confronting an armed man who’s in a drunken rage, planning a friend’s wedding or dealing with a ghost in a backwoods lodge, Cassie is going to deal with it the best way she knows how. And peaceful doesn’t always work.
When a mysterious phone call comes for Cassandra Wentworth – Cassie’s past is suddenly back to haunt her in a devastating way. Tom has always said nothing from before the time they met counts, but he didn’t know about this. Sue, Annie, Allie and Jenny are all willing to help, but will it be enough?

Tom is an endearing man but sometimes... This is one of the times I would like to poke him in the ribs. lol
ReplyDeleteGreat book - it has everything laughter, suspense, tears and HEA - be sure to get a copy for yourself.
Thanks, Leigh! Tom deserves to be poked this time. I'm glad Cassie pinched him!
DeleteOh, definitely no pinching, and no biting. Sometimes we have to learn the HARD way. Sounds good!
ReplyDeleteAnd some times it's worth it!
DeleteI agree with Leigh - great book. I love Cass and Tom and the delightful way they sort out their differences. They never fail to make me laugh and sigh.
ReplyDeleteGreat opening comments too. I didn't know it was small business day. In a world where major corporations are narrowing our choices, supporting local businesses is more important than ever.
So glad you like Cassie.
DeleteHope all the small business did well today.
He deserved that pinch and worse for teasing her so mercilessly in public. Not fair. Not fair at all. Loved the snippet, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathryn, I think he deserved it too. But he does love to tease her so.
DeleteI'll bet Tom was just itching for an excuse to use that new implement.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he was!
DeleteLove this! He definitely deserved BOTH of those pinches lol
ReplyDeleteHey, Liv! I agree completely.
DeleteI was just rereading this chapter last night. Love it when Tom gets to teasing Cassie. The leather sole was quite the gift. The romp that followed was one to remember.
