For the curious - questions for Lily

Come back tomorrow for the cover reveal and blurb for Cassie's Life, out November 17!

Today’s questions are for Lily – the house keeper, cook and mother hen to the whole gang in the Cassie Space series. Lily is one of my very favorite characters because of how she came to be. I had never thought of Lily, I knew nothing of her existence until one morning, while I was writing, in my head she literally burst through the door and took over. It was one of my most enjoyable writing sessions. She has rechristened Cassie and Sue as Missy and Miss Priss for reasons of her own, I suppose. Lily first appears in Cassie Corralled, book eight in the series.

For Lily: How has your life changed since you've been working for everyone at the river?

It's the difference 'tween day and night. I don't mind hard work but when you're living from paycheck to paycheck like I did most of my life and you miss a pay check or two it can get right scary. But these folks here, law they's crazy. Each one of the families pay me for working full time and I don't work but a couple of days a week for each one. Then Mr. Andy and Miss Annie give let me live in the mother-in-law suite right in they own pretty home. Mr. Tom and Missy got me a car to get around in when mine died and Mr. Steve and Miss Priss set up an annuity for me for when I get old. I don't think they really know what all they done means to me.

You have been such a loving part of Cassie's extended family for some time. What would you say are some of the strengths and weaknesses of both Tom and Cassie?

Tom’s strengths:

He’s a good man. He knows right and wrong. And he’ll stand up for what right against anybody. He’s a loyal friend and I think he's the smartest person they is.  He loves his wife better than any man I know and he’d do anything in his power to keep her safe and happy.

Tom’s weaknesses:

I reckon this is a strength and weakness both. The way he loves Miss Cassie means she can talk him into letting her do stuff he knows she oughtn’t. Sometimes I’m sure he’s gonna say no to her finally and before you know it she’s batten her eyes at him and sitting on his lap and he’s gonna give in, sure as the world.

I don’t like him whipping her. Don’t care what you call it men ain’t supposed to hit women. Missy don’t seem to mind most of the time and it sure ain’t hurt their marriage. But I still don’t agree with it. It’s the only thing I don’t like about him.

Cassie’s strengths:

She’s a loyal as the day is long. I’d sooner fight a mama grizzly bear than Missy if I was to hurt someone she loves.

She finds joy in life. This is one of the best things about Missy. It don’t matter if it’s a fancy trip they’re taking or if she and Miss Priss are sitting rocking looking at the river, she finds the joy in it.

Cassie’s weaknesses:

She drinks too much and I wish she’d stop. Most of the time it’s all right even if I don’t like it, but a few times it’s been dangerous and it scares me bad.

She jumps into things without thinking. I mean serious, dangerous things. She’s smarter than that. But she just don’t stop to think.

Please! If you have any questions, for the character in either of the series, Cassie's Space or Cal's Law or me, for that matter, you can leave them in the comments or email me at pk.corey@yahoo.com  And please come back next Wednesday for more questions and answers.
