Getting to know Casey McKay

I'm so happy to have Casey McKay with me today. Casey is a great writer and I think you will enjoy her answers as much as I did. She has been very opened. I'll said that my kids probably did more damage to my furniture than my cats have. I should have gotten a water bottle!   I hope you'll enjoy betting to know…

 Casey McKay

Give us your basic bio, what ever you’re willing to let us know.

I'm 32 and I live on the east coast with my husband and our 3 cats. I squeeze writing time into the morning before I go to my awful day job. Nights are out because of roller derby practice and I cannot be creative at night. I have found I can edit at night, I just can't write anything new. My husband and I have been publishing my books since early 2013 and just towards the end of this past year started publishing other authors as well. It's been an exciting year starting Baronet Press and we're continuing to grow.

When did you first realize that you were interested in the idea of spanking?

I'm not sure when I first realized my interest in spanking, it always just was. I do remember the first time I thought maybe I didn't need to be ashamed of it and that there were other people out there like me. I was in college and that movie The Secretary came out. I just remember thinking, wow, maybe I'm not as much of a weirdo as I thought!

Are you in a relationship that includes spanking? How would you describe it?

I am married and yes, our relationship includes spanking in the sense that I want it and he likes to keep me happy :) I'm grateful that even if he doesn't understand what it is about me and spanking at least he doesn't mind indulging me. So it's not really a part of our relationship dynamic as it is just something we do.

Were you spanked as a child? Whether yes or no, do you think this affected your interest?

I was, nothing I can really remember, but I know my parents weren't opposed to it. And it was the 80's, it was completely acceptable to do that then, right? I don't think it affected my interest in spanking at all. I think it's just something hardwired into me.

Did you, do you, or might you use spanking with your own children?

Well I don't have kids so I feel like this completely disqualifies me from this question. I honestly have not given it much thought. We shoot the cats with a spray bottle when they scratch the furniture, I'm guessing that's frowned upon when you have children? Hopefully I don't have children that like to sharpen their nails on the couches.

Do you remember the first spanking story or spanking book you ever read? Tell us about it.

The first stories I ever read were anything I could find online. I read the free stories on Discipline and Desire a lot, would re-read them even. Really anything that would come up in my browser when I typed in “spanking stories”, at the time most of it was crap, but I devoured it up anyway.

When did you first begin writing spanking stories?

In the later part of 2012 my husband and I hit some rough financial times. Our cable got shut off so we had no TV or internet and we were making almost daily trips to the library. I was ripping through books in the romance section, but the thing about public libraries is they have a terrible lack of spanking fiction. I would download the free ones I could on my Kindle but it got to a point that I just started writing some of my own. A few months later my husband was uploading my first novel on a weak internet signal that passed through our house from our neighbors. That's how it all began, it's kind of a ridiculous story if you think about it.

How comfortable are you with people in your real life knowing that you write spanking fiction? Does everyone know, a select few, or do you try to keep it private?

No one in my real life really knows. I'm getting more used to the fact that my friends will know one day- it's hard leading a double life. I've told a select few friends and they don't seem to care. I think I have a harder time thinking my family and in laws might find out one day, I'm going to try to make that not happen anytime soon.

Some people don’t like to be labeled in only one area, but do you feel your writing is in a particular category?

I've written contemporary, paranormal, fantasy, and I am working on a sci fi. Even though they are different categories I think my style and the way I form a story is very much the same. I can't seem to write characters that don't end up hopelessly in love. So I guess I would categorize myself as romance. With anal. Anal Romance (maybe I made a new genre)

Do you think you might someday like to branch out and write something totally different (or do you), either within the spanking fiction world or something else completely?

Maybe one day. I don't like to ever say never. Right now I don't think I could write a book without spanking or sex in it, it just happens. But one day, who knows I might get tired of it. I think I would like to try my hand at something a bit darker and heavier, we'll see.

How attached do you get to your characters? Do you know what happens after the book ends?

I get more attached to some characters than others. Like I still have little scenes that play out in my mind about the characters from my first book Catch a Falling Star, Mac and Luke, they're doing very well if you were wondering. Also, I think my all time favorite is Emmaline from Emmaline's Groom. She's another one that has a constant story going. But most of them, their stories end when the book ends. And that's okay, but I do like when they keep talking to me.

Describe your ‘perfect’ writing day.

Minimal distractions. A clean house, an empty house, a quiet house, and food in the fridge. It seems the most of what sidetracks me is feeling like I should be doing something else (like cleaning). My husband works from home now and is here a lot, so I try to write in the early morning when he's sleeping, otherwise I'm not alone and not focused. And food in the fridge so I don't end up eating olives and beef jerky at 3pm because I can find nothing else to feed my rumbling tummy.

When did you first begin publishing? What caused you to jump in at that moment in time?

It was 2013 and my husband made me jump in. I was panicked. I told him I wrote this book and he was like great, come up with a pen name. It would have been something I would have mulled over and hemmed and hawed and probably never have done if he hadn't just stepped in and told me we were doing it.

What is your best advice on how to promote?

I know some authors that spend a lot of time promoting and I know others that don't spend any at all. I think my best advice is not to drive yourself crazy with it. You want people to know you have a book, so you should post about it, but I am of the mindset that I still need to write and do other things. I can't spend my life sharing links to my book, you know?

Things like buffer app and similar programs are cool because you can set up tweets beforehand. I am all about time saving. I think it also helps to get excerpts and posts ready before a release so when you ask to be on another author's blog you have your post ready to go. (This is all easier said than done, I just suggested two things that I do about 50% of the time, but when I do actually execute them I am so proud of myself)

With so many wonderful writers here I can get confused as to who writes what. Would you list all the books you’ve published so far. I’m assuming your books can be purchased through Amazon and Barnes and Noble, but let us know where else they are available.

A book you don't want to miss - by Leigh Smith

I'm happy to be helping readers find out about another great book by one of my favorite writers, Leigh Smith. Leigh manages to write books that appeal to my desires, strong, honest men that love hard and want to protect their women. I thoroughly enjoyed The Cowboy Has Her Back and I bet you will too.

                                                         Blurb
After her Navy SEAL husband is killed by a drunk driver, widowed Mikela ‘Mickey’ Chandler comes to stay with her brother-in-law and sister, Becky.  While out riding, her horse takes off at breakneck speed and Mickey loses her grip on one of the reins.  Fortunately, for her, local rancher Hank Caldwell is on hand to save the day…and the two embark on a passionate and stormy relationship.

It’s not long before Mickey falls head over heels in love with the tall, handsome rancher, but having been hurt in a previous relationship, Hank is guarded and cautious where his feelings are concerned.  There are other problems too, in that Hank is used to being in control while Mickey is an independent woman in charge of her life.  Their relationship teeters on the edge as the two fight for control.

Are they too stubborn and set in their ways to make things work, or will love find a way.

EXCERPT

Mickey told Hank to choose the spot.  He picked Rowdy’s Roadhouse, a restaurant on the outskirts of Williston and made famous by regular appearances of Rowdy’s Rangers, a Texas band now famous but discovered at the restaurant by an affluent patron.  Since then, whenever the band was on tour and in the approximate area, they made it a point to drop in and play a set or two. Rowdy’s was a popular place and there was quite a line  waiting for a table when they arrived. Luckily for them, many of the waiting patrons were large parties and they moved up the list quickly since there was just the two of them.

Mickey had pumped her sister for any information on Hank, but she didn’t learn much. Becky said he had only returned to Williston and let it go at that.  Apparently, the Circle C was one of the biggest and most successful ranches in the area.  In addition to cattle and horses, their holdings included vineyards and almond orchards.  Hank had a couple of brothers and a sister and both brothers worked on the ranch.  His sister married an attorney and moved to Washington DC.  His parents, were still involved in the running of the ranch but based on the gossip around town were gradually turning it over to their sons, Hank, Dave and Randy.

Hank and Mickey weren’t sitting at the table long before people started stopping by. All of them welcomed him home; and expressed their hope he stayed this time.  If people ever stopped coming by the table, she planned on finding out more about Hank Caldwell.  With his tousled sandy blonde hair, bronzed skin and bright blue eyes, fine lines crinkling the edges of his eyes and mouth, he was good looking enough to be an actor or model. He was a man comfortable in his own skin and used to being in command, and it showed. Dressed in dark blue jeans, sharply creased but soft looking and weathered, a checked long sleeved shirt and well-worn boots that were clean and polished, he was one handsome cowboy and she was sure he set many a heart aflutter, hers among them.  The steady stream of greeters slowed down and she was just about to ask him about himself when another couple plopped themselves down in the seat on the other side of their booth.

“What are you doing here, this is most unusual for you?” the man said to Hank. Mickey took a good look at Dave and could see a resemblance but Hank was the winner. “Mickey is taking me to dinner for saving her ass this afternoon.”

“Mickey, meet my brother Dave and this is his, ‘what are you Dani, his lover, friend, mistress, wife; what other labels might there be?’”

“No need for such sarcasm or meanness, Hank” she purred at him.

“I see not much has changed,” Dave said to Hank. Mickey was surprised that Dave took Hank’s disparaging remarks about Dani so well, she half expected fisticuffs to break out at any moment.

“Oh, a lot has changed.  She’s with you now and I only wish you the best of luck and hope to hell you never have to leave town, because we have one more brother.”

“That’s enough, Hank,” Dave told him.

“You came and sat down here, so if you don’t want to hear anymore, then I suggest you find yourself another table.”

Dave gave Dani a slight push out of the booth.  As they walked away, Mickey spoke to Hank.  “It’s none of my business, but I have to ask.  I can guess, but what the hell was that all about?”

‘You’re right Mickey,  I don’t mean to be rude, but I don’t want to ruin what’s left of the evening by hashing through things better left untouched. Maybe if we ever get to know each other better, I’ll explain.”

“Okay, but before they popped in, I wanted to ask what brought you back to Williston and what took you away in the first place.  If the two things are tied together, I’ll understand if you don’t want to go there.”

“They are and they aren’t.”

“I left because when I was in college I was recruited by Homeland Security.  My college major was criminal justice and after September 11th I was all gung ho to go out and protect my country.  When HS came on campus, they offered me a chance to use my education and satisfy my passion; I took them up on their offer.  So, to answer your question, I worked for Homeland Security.  I’m not active right now.”

“So are you back in Williston to stay?”

“I’m in Williston.  Life changes on a dime and in HS I learned to live one day at a time, that’s what I’m doing.  So enough about me, let’s talk about you.”

“Shall I start at birth and just go forward or is there a particular place you want me to start?”

“A smart mouth, I should have guessed from earlier today.  Start anywhere you like?”

“I told you earlier my sister Becky had twins and I came to help. Once the twins were on a regular schedule, I was beginning to feel underfoot but the holidays were on the horizon,  and she asked me to stay through them at least.  It didn’t take much convincing, spending the holidays with loved ones or alone. I find I’m ready for a change and want to be closer to family. Becky said the district is looking for teachers so I’ve decided to apply for a position. Back in San Diego, there are too many memories around every corner.  I’m a widow.  My husband was a Navy Seal that, believe it or not, was not killed in the line of duty but by a drunk driver. Barry returned from a mission and was on his way home when it happened.  They haven’t found the driver, and I doubt they ever will.  It occurred about 2:30 am, and no one has come forward with any information.  It’s been two years, so I don’t hold out any hope.  It doesn't matter though, it will not bring Barry back.  Anyway, it’s time for a change.  Becky is my only sibling so living close to her and my nieces makes this the logical place to settle.”

“So if you get the job, you’ll settle here in Williston, or at least in the area?”

“Teaching job or not, I’ll settle here.  With Barry’s pension, I don’t have any financial worries.  I still have loose ends in Southern California but nothing that will keep me there for long.”

“Good to know.”

BIO:  My husband and I travel the western United States where I indulge my love for words, both reading and writing. I write what I like to read which are romantic stories containing strong dominant men and confident, feisty women. The relationships are always loving and challenging. Conflict is often resolved with either a threat of a spanking or an actual spanking or two, either erotic or otherwise.

Cowboys and westerns are my favorite genre, however my characters, although fantasy, are sometimes based on people I've come across in my lifetime.  Truth can be stranger than fiction and although the stories are fantasy, once in a while there is a kernal of real lease embedded in the situations.

If the story doesn't contain a happy ending, it is left open ended for the reader to come to their own conclusions.

That's the great thing about fiction, it can be whatever you want it to be.

Saturday Spankings - March 14

Happy Saturday.  I’m happy to be back to Saturday Spankings, my favorite blog hop. I’m going to be in trouble today – I’m going over my eight sentences, but I probably won’t be for the next couple of weeks so maybe Mistress Blake will forgive me.
In this snippet from Cassie’s Conflict even sweet Annie had to deal with consequences from the tattoo fiasco. On a phone call to Cassie, Annie shock Cassie by revealing that she too got spanked. Cassie, knowing Andy is no spanker, finds this hard to believe. Pressing Annie harder Cassie asked for more details.

“Well, it was just once swat, but it stung!” (Oh really?)
When I said nothing, she continued, “It turned red!” (Do tell.)
“I felt so bad about disappointing Andy I nearly cried, but Andy was really sweet then and told me just to be careful and not to follow you two in everything you did or he’d have to spank me again. I promised him I would be more careful in the future. I told him I’d try my best not to let you and Sue drag me into all your foolishness.”
“Annie,” I started, trying not to laugh out loud. “That wasn’t a spanking. That was a love tap!”
“You didn’t feel it, Cassie. It was really hard!”
I decided not to belabor the point. “So you ditching us hooligans?
Annie laughed. “I’m not ditching anyone, but I don’t want Andy that upset with me again.”
Upset! I doubt the man had even frowned at her, upset my butt! But I didn’t share that with Annie. That one swat had had the desired effect. Annie was contrite, had decided to try to resist our negative influence in the future and all was right with her world. What more could Andy have been shooting for?

Cassie’s Conflict is available now at
Blushing BooksAmazon and Barnes and Noble

Blurb : Cassie is one busy lady. The new country club/spa has opened and the whole gang is enjoying all the amenities. That is until a new club member, Clara, begins to ride roughshod over everyone.  The situation worsens until it becomes physical, but even that doesn’t stop it.

Cassie seems to find little conflicts everywhere she turns, but it’s not always her fault. Tom is over protective about her health, sending Cassie into a tantrum. In addition, a few things happen on the girl’s trip that lands Cassie, as well as the other ladies, in even more hot water.  Through it all Tom is there to love and protect Cassie in his own unique way.

I hope you'll give all the Cassie books a read.

Getting to know Sue Lyndon - march 10

I’m very happy to have Sue Lyndon here today. This woman can write! I’m always impressed as I read her works and then just seeing how many books she has written and in so many genres – contemporary, western, sci-fi, age play – I am amazed. Sue is a writer who can to it all. I’m very please today to let you learn more about…

(Okay, I didn't ask this particular question, but it's still true.)

Sue Lyndon

Give us your basic bio, whatever you’re willing to let us know.

Good morning, PK, and thanks for having me! Hmm…let’s see. I live in Maryland with my husband, our three daughters, and our little dog. I write full time and I love it! Most of my writing is published under this name, however I have three other names that I publish under from time to time, so I’m always wishing for more hours in the day. When I’m not writing, spending time with my wonderful husband, or wrangling the kids, I enjoy scrapbooking, crocheting, reading (usually something naughty!), and re-watching my favorite TV shows from my childhood. Right now I’m watching Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, and totally crushing on Sully all over again. J

When did you first realize that you were interested in the idea of spanking?

Oh gosh, some of my earliest memories revolve around being excited just from hearing someone talk about spanking, or seeing a spanking in an old Western movie, or reading a brief spanking scene from a book. Not sure how old I was, but I was pretty young when this all started. I also remember playing with my Barbies and making Ken tie Barbie up and spank her. Sometimes he made her stand in the corner too, LOL.

When did you first begin writing spanking stories?

Four years ago. I was working on a fantasy novella (Karyn and the Crigon) and my heroine lost her temper and slapped the hero. It only made sense for him to respond by spanking her, and I decided to go for it, change the plot around, and make the book a spanking romance. After that I started writing more spanking stories than any other genre.

How comfortable are you with people in your real life knowing that you write spanking fiction? Does everyone know, a select few, or do you try to keep it private?

All of my friends and most of my family know that I write “naughty” stories. The ones who are curious enough to check out my books after I tell them my pen name know I write spanking fiction, but the ones who don’t know how to use the Internet (LOL like my mother) don’t know the specifics of what I write, just that it’s naughty. If I didn’t tell people I wrote books for a living, they would probably think I sat at home all day watching soap operas, so I like to be honest about what I do with my time.

Some people don’t like to be labeled in only one area, but do you feel your writing is in a particular category.

I enjoy writing many different subgenres of spanking fiction, from sci fi to contemporary to fantasy to western. My first medieval romance will release in a couple of weeks, so I’m excited about that! I think it depends on my mood when I’m brainstorming a story. I like darker themes in writing sometimes, and that’s easier to do with a dystopian story. But sometimes I’m up for something light and maybe a little funny, and that’s easier to do with contemporary or a holiday-themed story. All my stories end up being pretty kinky though…no matter the subgenre of spanking fiction I’m writing.

Do you think you might someday like to branch out and write something totally different (or do you), either within the spanking fiction world or something else completely?

I started out by writing science fiction and fantasy short stories and sold some to a few magazines and online publications before I ever started writing spanking fiction. Now and then I still write something totally vanilla, and I’m thinking about spending some time in the near future rewriting the first novel I ever wrote, which was a space opera. Sometimes I need a break from spanking fiction and like to work on other genres, even if I’m just writing a piece of sci fi flash fiction.

When did you first begin publishing? What caused you to jump in at that moment in time?

2011. I was going back to school for nursing and my mother was watching my kids while I went to classes. My grandparents got sick so my mother had to take care of them, which meant she could no longer watch my kids, and unless I wanted to pay for childcare for three kids (which we couldn’t afford), I had to take some time off school. This little voice started whispering to me saying “you should finally write a book!” so I started writing in 2010 and my first stories were published in 2011. I decided I wanted to be a writer and never went back to school.

What is your best advice on how to promote?

I think networking with other authors who write in your genre is very important. It takes a village to promote a book. Make friends, help spread the word about other authors’ books, and maintain a presence on social media (Facebook, Twitter, and a blog/website are the bare essentials). Visit other writers’ blogs and invite them to visit you. Keep in mind that it takes a while to network and to build a fan base, so be patient and keep writing. Most of all… have fun!

With so many wonderful writers here I can get confused as to who writes what. Would you list all the books you’ve published so far. I’m assuming your books can be purchased through Amazon and Barnes and Noble, but let us know where else they are available.

All of my books are available on Amazon and many are also available on Barnes and Noble, All Romance, Kobo, and Blushing Books.

My latest release is a short and naughty sci-fi romance called Big Blue Valentine. Here’s a little more about it:
It’s probably not smart to turn a powerful alien prince blue on purpose, but when
Princess Minnie thinks her husband, Zak, forgot Valentine’s Day, she impulsively squeezes a lemon slice into his drink. She knows full well the effect lemon has on Aklannians. Now it’s just a matter of time before his golden skin turns a brilliant shade of blue. She plots to have him called back from Parliament so she can confess her naughtiness to him in private, but the scheme blows up in her face.

Prince Zak can’t believe someone slipped lemon into his drink, causing him to postpone his Valentine’s Day surprise for Minnie. But he’s even more stunned to discover his own wife is behind his sudden change in color. Big, blue, and infuriated, he storms through the palace halls in search of his wayward princess. She has some explaining to do.

Note: This story contains a mischievous human girl who delights in all things Valentine’s Day, a hunky alien prince who doesn’t take kindly to being turned blue, a bit of spanking, and other naughty scenes that are out of this world. Please don't buy this book if such material offends you.
*Big Blue Valentine is available for just 99 cents and it’s FREE to borrow for Kindle Unlimited members*
