Welcome to Saturday Spankings and happy December! Today’s snippet comes from Secrets on the River, the second in the On the River series – the third one has been accepted, so be looking for it in the not too distant future.
Of the three ladies who have been friends for more than fifty years, Annie is the good one. Always ladylike, she is quiet and refined. She might be drug along into some of Cassie and Sue more hairbrain plans, but it’s always reluctantly. No one can understand what has her so upset as she yells at Allie and Ryan before running out of the dinner party. Neither Andy nor Lily can get her to talk and they hope all will be better the next day.
Annie’s cries had quieted by the time Andy got ready for bed. He didn’t talk, hoping she was finally relaxed enough to get some sleep. Annie wasn’t sleeping, but she pretended to be. She couldn’t talk to Andy, not about this. She continued to feign sleep until one-thirty, then slipped silently out of bed. She dressed in the closet without turning on lights. She’d left her car in the driveway and her suitcase had been in it for days. All she had to do was write a note.
I should have written it before now. Why didn’t I? Because there is no way I can explain anything in a note. She tiptoed back to the bedroom door and looked at Andy with longing.
The desire to wake him and have him hold her, hold her tight and never let go, nearly overwhelmed her. This was going to hurt him deeply. But not as deeply as if she stayed and he learned everything.
It was time to go, now before she lost her nerve. Taking a notecard from the desk, she picked up the pen and wrote quickly. The card was shoved into the envelope and Annie scribbled on the front, To my family. Then she left, driving through the dark night into the unknown.

Everyone has secrets, but most don’t have major implications. When Jenny tries to keep her weekend activities from Cal, the repercussions of him finding out land only on her. But some secrets are bigger and more far reaching. You would think that as long as Cassie, Sue and Annie have known each other, surely they could have no real secrets from one another. But you’d be surprised. The full truth behind one secret may never be known, another could change the face of The Landing forever.
From steamy sex to both playful and painful spankings, the people on the river continue to live and love and marvel at all that are learning.

Oh gosh, intense snippet PK. I wonder whatever has happened to make Annie think she has to leave?

Annie is always so calm and collected. It was hard to write her so upset.
DeleteI agree with Roz. I have no idea why Annie thinks she needs to leave, but I'm sure Andy will make sure she realizes walking away is ever a good solution to a problem. Love the snippet, PK.
ReplyDeleteAndy was so hurt. And Annie realized she couldn't survive without Andy and the girls.
