It’s time for Saturday Spankings again. I’ll be posting a few more snippets from Returning to Us and then I’ll switch to the new book, Suspicions on the River which should be out the middle of this month.
During a lazy, rainy-day Susan manages to break several of the rules they had agreed upon. Susan realized she deserved the spanking she had coming, but it seemed Hal was willing to nearly blow it off.
She woke with a start as she heard Hal come in. What time is it? was her first thought. “Susan, where are you?” Hal called.
Susan hurried to greet him. “I’m sorry honey, I fell asleep.”
“All day?” he asked, puzzled.
“No, but it was so rainy. I got caught up in the book and then I finally fell asleep.” Susan felt like a wreck. She still had her nightgown on. She hadn’t showered or done one thing around the house. The breakfast dishes were still on the counter and there was a load of dirty laundry in the laundry room.
“Shame on you,” Hal told her, though he was wearing an understanding smile.
Susan braced herself as he reached for a wooden spoon. But she realized she had it coming. She had certainly broken the first two rules about cleaning and moving. And had she lied? She hadn’t been exactly forthcoming about the hours she’d spent on Facebook and Candy Crush. And she hadn’t started anything for supper even though it was her night. Yes, no doubt she deserved a spanking.
Hal bent her over the island and administered three sharp swats to her derriere before standing her up and giving her a kiss. “Why don’t you straighten up in here and I’ll start the laundry.”
Susan, puzzled, watched him retreat into the laundry room. That’s it? I break four of his five rules and he basically pats my ass? Susan quickly put the few dishes into the dishwasher and wiped down the counter before heading upstairs.
Hal soon joined her. “If nothing’s started, we can go out tonight if you’ve been cooped up all day.
“Sure, that’s fine. I’m going to take a shower,” she told him.
Hal stopped her. “You okay? Is anything wrong?” he asked.
“No, everything’s fine,” she assured him. Might as well make it five for five, she thought.
They’d been wanting to try Amore. They both loved Italian and the restaurant was every bit as good as they’d been told. Susan relaxed over dinner. It wasn’t a big deal, she mused. Hal wasn’t going to bust her ass over every little thing. But still, she had expected more – a lecture, a warning… something. Maybe he was waiting until bedtime.
No warning or lecture came. As they got ready for bed, Hal teased her that she needed a little color in her cheeks and he quickly pulled her over his lap for a short sexy spanking before moving on to an even sexier part of the evening.
Afterwards, Susan had trouble falling asleep. Was sex the only reason Hal spanked? Well, what was wrong with that?she asked herself. But it didn’t feel right. It felt superficial. She needed to stop worrying. They lived in a spanking community and they belonged here. Hal had made rules and, except for a few lapses, she was sticking to them. He had no reason to give her a serious spanking. Everything’s fine, she told herself. But it was a long time before she fell into an uneasy sleep.
After thirty-five years, Susan thought her marriage was over the morning after their last child's wedding. Hal, her husband, said he needed to talk about something important. She knew it couldn’t be good. They rarely even spoke anymore.
In the beginning they’d been so close, so passionate. Practicing domestic discipline had been a wonderful part of their lives - sometimes. But over the years it had all drifted away, even when Susan asked for what she needed. He would occasionally give her a mild, sexy spanking, but the real discipline she craved was a thing of the past.
Now, Hal suddenly wanted to talk about moving to Colorado to live in Corbin's Bend, a community where spanking was not only accepted, but encouraged. Could this bring back the closeness and passion they’d once had? Could Susan trust that this time Hal would truly step up?

Hi PK, great snippet! Susan's dilemma is a very familiar one to many of us. How serious is he? Is it just about sex? Wanting to be held accountable, yet not at the same time

I'm betting most of us have had this worry at one time or the other.
DeleteI agree with Roz. In one way she's glad he let her off so easily, but on the other hand she's disappointed in his cavalier attitude. Great snippet!
ReplyDeleteI think this is a common feeling.
