Welcome back for another Saturday Spankings. I’m putting up snippets from each of my books over the next several months. Today’s snippet is from the first book, Cassie’s Space. This snippet take place the morning after Tom gave Cassie a very public spanking in the cruise ship's casino – something he’d never done before or since.
The following morning Tom insist she accompany him to breakfast. Cassie maintains she’s not leaving the room until they dock and that then she was going out with the luggage. But Tom gave her little choice and off they went to the dining room…
Everyone should have the experience of entering a room and having the entire crowd within go silent. But, believe me, once is enough. The silence that fell over the dining room as we came through the door let me know me in no uncertain terms that every passenger, and probably the crew from captain to cabin boy, knew what had happened in the casino.
Tom had assured me that a lady knows how to conduct herself in any situation. Really? Have you seen this situation covered in Emily Post’s Guide to Manners? But I held my head high and walked with Tom to the table. I let nothing register on my face as I sat as gingerly as I could. My wonderful friends kept up a nice, casual conversation all through breakfast. Thankfully, Tom took the men off after we ate so that we girls could talk alone. Sue and Annie didn’t understand and they didn’t approve. Both my friends during my first marriage, they realized how different the two marriages were, so they mostly kept their opinions to themselves. Embarrassment kept me from wanting to talk about what had happened. Deep down they knew how much Tom and I loved one another and at that time they let that suffice, but Sue continues to this day to have her moments when she can’t hold her tongue.
I guess many would wonder if they could ever get over embarrassment of this scale. I wondered too. But I’ve finally realized that enough time can allow you to find humor in most any situation. About two years after the cruise, we attended a small dinner party with these four close friends and a few new couples. One of the new ladies suggested that we make plans to go on an all-night gambling cruise advertised in our area. Silence descended over the party as everyone tried not to look at me. Realizing that everyone else seemed more uncomfortable than me, I turned to my new friend and said, “Honey, you go right ahead and make plans, but please leave me out. As far as I’m concerned, gambling’s nothing but a pain in the ass.” As laughter exploded around the room, I turned to Tom and saw that for the first, and probably only, time in my married life, he wouldn’t spank me for saying “ass.” Tom just raised his glass as a toast and kept on laughing.

A public spanking only happened once in Cassie's life and I'm sure she felt it was more than enough. I think I would have stayed under the bed.
DeleteLove the reference to Emily Post’s Guide to Manners! Etiquette books really don't cover this sort of thing, do they?
ReplyDeleteI often refer to things as being "a pain in the arse. And not in a good way"!
Haven't read any of the Cassie books. I've just bought your Corbin's Bend book "Returning to Us". Really excited to start reading the new series of the Bend!
I hope you enjoy Returning to Us. And I really hope you'll try one Cassie book. I'd love to get to know her.
DeleteLove this! She made some very good points, including the fact that gambling could prove quite painful, especially if you're married to someone like Tom. I'm not sure how he convinced her to show her face in public again, but I want to read that scene. Great job!
ReplyDeleteTom can be a very persuasive man - as Cassie well knows!
DeleteThis is a greeat post
