Alyssa Bailey - Camille's Second Chance

Camille’s Second Chance

by Alyssa Bailey
“We’re going to the ranch. This daddy is taking care of all his little ones.”

I'm happy to have Alyssa Bailey visiting at the Reading Room today. This book truly caught my interest.  I'll definitely be getting this one.

Blurb:
Before she was twenty-one, Camille Hendrix had been lied to, cheated on, assaulted twice, forced into a loveless marriage, divorced, and left to fend for herself with one baby and another on the way. She had also been loved by a man she left without a word of explanation and missed every day of her life. Now, with a nursing degree and two preschoolers she was determined to return to her hometown and make a life, if possible, with the only man she ever loved. But was it too much to ask? Someone in town thought so.

Sawyer Knight was the most sought-after playboy in three counties and probably more. Everyone knew the woman he loved had suddenly left town without a word. Since then, Sawyer could be seen most weekends at the Whet Whistle, kicking up dust, getting toasted, and going home with a different woman. No woman was permanent in his life and Sawyer made that known loud and clear, until Cami came back to town. She was divorced, a mother, and life weary but when he laid eyes on her in his brother’s house, she was still the most beautiful, feisty woman he’d ever seen. Maybe more than ever because her strength of character shone through the battle scars and his heart immediately yearned for her. If he claimed her this time, he wouldn’t let her go without a fight. It seemed the first opponent had already entered the ring.

This is book two in the Clearwater Ranch series but can be enjoyed as a standalone.

Publisher’s Note: This contemporary western romance is intended for adults only. It contains elements of mystery, suspense, sensual scenes and power exchange. If any of these offend you, please do not purchase.

Excerpt:

But tonight, regardless of what had gone before or because of it, she would agree with him and stay at the Clear Knight.

“Oh, I think we’ll be fine, Piper. In fact, we should get back before my parents go to bed.” Camille began to pick up her plate and started to clear away the other dishes. Jackson’s big hand covered hers.

“Don’t worry, honey, I’ll get this handled after you all go to the ranch.” His meaning was clear. Go home with Sawyer and figure this out.

“Why do you have to get there before they go to bed? Was it because you were going to stay here but have now changed your mind?” asked Sawyer.

Sawyer was giving no quarter and knew she wouldn’t ask for any. Cami didn’t answer as she continued to gather her bag and reached for Lily. Sawyer was not playing any games with Camille nor was he going to keep his thoughts to himself. He’d call her on anything he felt needed to be addressed. He pushed the point with his woman.

“Don’t you have a key to the house?”

His woman, yes, his. He still claimed her no matter what had happened in the past. He was the most complete he had been since he got her message and found out she was gone. She stared into his eyes acting as though she had been caught a naughty act and didn’t want to admit it but didn’t want to lie. His feelings for her were so intense they hurt.

 “Cami?”

She replied quietly. “No one calls me that anymore.”

“Except me. Stop avoiding my questions.”

Her heavy sigh rang out. “I had a difference of opinion with my mother and she said she didn’t want to risk the wrong people getting access to her home. Her implications were clear."

“The hell she did!” the words rolled out like thunder in a storm.

“Daddy,” two little voices chastised, “that’s a bad word.” He grinned at the sound of being called daddy and quickly apologized. Things were definitely changing. Returning his attention to Cami, he sobered. Sawyer hadn’t missed the hitch in her voice or the trembling lip she was biting. He reached out and pulled it from between her teeth. Leaning in, he commanded in a low voice next to her ear.

“We’re going to the ranch. This daddy is taking care of all his little ones.”
