G is for gun

As a child I loved my toy guns! I had toy cowboy guns,  toy rifles, and toy machine guns… the more real looking the better. My dad had some of his guns from WWII in the house. I thought of them as antiques rather than firearms. As an adult I lost my interest in guns. I’ve never even shot a real one. And I don't want to get into a gun debate, I don't have a gun and I don't plan to take anyones gun away from them.

But then, there’s Cassie. As I write her stories Cassie is definitely the ‘director’ and tells me what to write. Cassie is an excellent shot with most types of guns. In one story she gets a very small, very light handgun. Now, ever since I wrote the story, I’ve entertained the idea of getting a very small, very light handgun.  Come on, who's in control here?

What I want to know is, is this a resurgence of my childhood interest or something Cassie’s trying to talk me into. If I had the money to see one, I think Cassie and I could keep a shrink busy.

  1. LOL PK...I do believe you are in charge even when Cassie tries to make you believe she is. ;) If you ever make over to my neck of the woods, you are welcome to come shoot my guns. Don't have any small handguns but have a sweet Ruger 22 auto rifle that doesn't have a kick.

Just think of the story material if you and Cassie ever do go to a shrink! :D

    Hugs and Blessings...

  2. LoL PK, I agree with Cat .. you are in charge, although Cassie may beg to differ :)

I admit guns freak me out. My ex was a hunter and it always made me uncomfortable.

    1. I'm no gun lover, by any means. As for who's in charge, I'm still now sure.

  3. PK,
having been in the army, I have some experience of guns and explosive devices.
I suspect if you and Cassie went to see a shrink, the shrink would end up needing to see a shrink.
    Love and warm hugs,
    Paul.

  4. Every person in my family has not only a gun, but guns. Don't know what it's all about, but it is what it is. I am not an advocate of them and can't imagine ever using one except for on a shooting range, but you go girl.

    1. It runs through my mind, but I haven't run to the gun store.

  5. When I see those small handguns for ladies (or an antique one) that fit in the palm of your hand...it's sort of sexy. Don't have one and would probably hurt myself if I did.

I think of PK and Cassie as the little devil and angel sitting on your shoulders, both part of you, just a matter of which one you listen to.

    1. Maybe you're right, they do seem a bit sexy. I was always a goody two shoes, never broke the rules and would do anything to avoid an argument. I think that's why I've always wanted to be Cassie.

  6. To me guns are like very much non consensual sex. It's only arousing in books. Not very fond of guns, I'm afraid. I'm will refrain from a lecture, as this is not the time nor the place but I kind of feel strongly about it.

I do enjoy your non-gun-posts very much, PK! :-)

    1. Han, I have a feeling that deep down we feel the same about guns, which is why Cassie hasn't been able to talk me into it yet.

  7. My Dad had guns the entire time I was growing up, but I only ever saw them when he went hunting with my uncle. Dad never trophy hunted. He always brought home the meat, and being a large family, we were very grateful to get it.

Later on, I married a military man who had guns, both for hunting and personal defense. I never thought one way or the other about guns for myself until I decided to go to New Orleans and my husband couldn't go with me. At that point, he put his foot down and said I could not go unless I took a conceal and carry class, bought a small gun and learned how to use it.

I am not a gun activist. To have or not to have a gun is every individual's personal choice. However, I don't regret for a second taking that class, and I do look forward to accompanying my husband to the shooting range once a month to practice and gain proficiency with the gun I bought (it's pretty--they heated the metal to make it a rainbow array of colors...I know, I know...that's the wrong criteria to use to pick a gun, but still...it's pretty!). If you do decide to get a gun, make sure you shot it before you buy it so you get a caliber that won't kick harder than you can control. And then take the class. In my very humble opinion, it's indispensable for responsible gun ownership.

    Good G post, PK. :)

    1. We have good friends we travel with. He has his permit to carry and I have to admit some of the back in the mountains places that we've been with them, I've been glad he's had his pistol with him, even though I've never seen it.

  9. I love hearing our spunky Cassie and whatever she feels is necessary (Including a weapon)! It fits in with her gumption, and that seems okay to me. However, I am a city girl and don't have any guns.

    1. I'll tell you this woman can shoot. But you can imagine how much Tom wants her to have a gun.
